The RPO is excited to welcome to the stage Conductor Valentina Peleggi for a series of concerts in the 2019-20 season, featuring Elgar's Cello Concerto.

We asked Valentina what she thought of the piece.

“Music director of the Dutch National Opera since 2011, Marc Albrecht has an unassuming way with the grandest statements of German Romanticism – he made his debut at the Proms with a compelling Ein Heldenleben in 2006 – and he coaxed some outstanding playing from the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra: I have not heard them on such form in years.”

Prom 68: ‘Wagner Night’ was the RPO’s offering in the 2019 BBC Proms series. One of a number of proms commemorating 150 years since the birth of the founder/conductor of the proms, Sir Henry Wood. The programme was a collection of music that Sir Henry would have typically chosen for his concerts: the first half of two overtures and some incidental music, followed by the main event in the second half – highlights from Wagner’s colossal concluding opera from the Ring Cycle, Götterdammerung.
