Sisters Sophie and Phoebe had a very memorable summer holiday.
They are two passionate young musicians from Wiltshire who play the violin and cello, and their grandmother sadly suffered from a stroke last year.
Having learned about RPO Resound’s STROKESTRA® project, they were inspired by its mission and volunteered to support the life-changing scheme with a fundraiser.
STROKESTRA® is a pioneering stroke rehabilitation programme that harnesses the power of group creative music-making alongside professional musicians and clinicians to drive patient-led recovery in stroke patients and their carers. This autumn the programme is returning to Hull to deliver its social, emotional, cognitive, physical and communication benefits, all while creating Hull’s very own Stroke Orchestra.
Together with their mum Milly, the trio challenged themselves to swim 10 miles each (30 miles in total) over 10 days in August, to raise money for the project and help the RPO expand our innovative work to improve stroke rehabilitation across the UK and beyond.
By the end of the month Sophie, Phoebe and Milly completed 1,920 25m lengths, raising over £300 for STROKESTRA®!
Everyone at the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra are thankful for their dedication to making a difference to the lives of stroke patients, and would like to congratulate the family for completing their big swim!
