Music can affect us in powerful ways, eliciting emotions and transcending language with rhythms, harmonies and pauses.

In recognition of the unique way that music speaks to us individually, we asked the members of Wendover Arts Club to respond to the repertoire in our upcoming concert in Aylesbury with an exhibition of their work. 

The month-long exhibition, which is on display at the Aylesbury Waterside Theatre now, offers a thought-provoking insight in to the concert programme, which features Sibelius’ Karelia Suite, Vaughan Williams' The Lark Ascending and Elgar’s much-loved ‘Enigma’ variations. The exhibition is free of charge, during Theatre opening hours, Monday - Saturday 10am - 5pm.

The exhibition includes a vivid painting by Lori North titled ‘Crimson Tide’ which was created in response to Elgar’s 'Enigma' variations; “Nimrod makes me feel overwhelmed by sadness for loves and lives lost”.

Another striking piece in the exhibition is ‘Northern Lights’ by Meryll Coe. She playfully explains that the piece was created in response to Sibelius’ Karelia Suite; “the beginning makes me think of fireworks and this is the nearest I can get in painting”.
