Fresh off the stage from winning the Menuhin Competition Geneva 2018, violinist Diana Adamyan joins the RPO for a series of concerts in the 2019-20 season, to perform Prokoviev's enchanting Violin Concerto No.2. We caught up with Diana to find out more!
Hi Diana, thank you for joining us, what is the best perk of being a professional musician?
Professional musicians spend so much time immersed in the music that they gain an understanding of the work from the inside and I feel like I have a mission to share this understanding with our listeners.
For people who are not familiar with Prokofiev’s Violin Concerto, what should they listen out for?
There is Russian lyrical soul in this concerto. It is warm and emotional which fits my Armenian roots, so I hope it will be a special performance.
And what can audiences expect from your performance?
I hope that I will be able to deliver the concerto's message both emotionally, technically and I will add my individual feelings as well.
What is it like to work with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra?
It is a great honour and I am so happy! The first time that I performed with the RPO was when I was 15, I am really glad to make a return and perform with these wonderful musicians again.
Can you tell us a little bit about your violin?
Now I have two violins. Since 2014 I have been playing an Urs Machler violin, which I played when I won the Senior 1st Prize of the Menuhin Competition last year. As part of this prize, I was awarded a formidable violin by Nicolaus Gagliano from the collection of Christophe Landon.
