Sub-Principal First Violin
American violinist Shana Douglas studied with Ida Kavafian and Arnold Steinhardt at the Curtis Institute of Music in Philadelphia and with David Takeno at the Guildhall School in London. Shmuel Ashkenasi, David Cerone and Miriam Fried have also been important mentors.
An avid soloist and chamber musician, Shana has performed at the Ravinia Festival in Chicago, the Kennedy Center in Washington DC, Salle Molière in Lyon, and at Barbican Hall and Kings Place in London. She has also been a frequent participant at IMS Prussia Cove Open Chamber Music in Cornwall. Her collaborators include the likes of Boris Brovtsyn, Kim Kashkashian, Jakob Koranyi and Steve Tenenbom.
Shana’s orchestral career has seen her appear as Leader of the Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra and English National Opera, and she also performs with ensembles such as the Academy of St Martin in the Fields and English Chamber Orchestra.
Outside of music, Shana is a great lover of baking, and her speciality is a New York-style Jewish chocolate babka.
