Sub-Principal Flute

Joanna Marsh was born in Newcastle-upon-Tyne and started playing the flute at the age of seven. She won a Foundation Scholarship to study with David Butt at the Royal College of Music in London and a Countess of Munster Scholarship to attend the Guildhall School of Music & Drama as a postgraduate, studying with Paul Edmund-Davies and Philippa Davies.

Shortly after graduating, she became Sub-Principal Flute of the Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra where she stayed for five years.

After moving back to London, Joanna enjoyed a busy freelance career until she joined the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra in 2015.

Joanna gratefully acknowledges the support of her Chair Patrons, Sir Robert and Lady Wilson.
