Principal Clarinet
Katherine Lacy has held the Principal Clarinet position with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra since 2015. Before that, she spent ten years as a bass clarinettist, firstly with the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra, who appointed her straight after she graduated from the Royal Academy of Music, and then with the BBC Symphony Orchestra.
Highlights of her time with the RPO include many big foreign tours (which, now with two small children, are more of a rarity!) and regular performances of the Mozart Clarinet Concerto, which she recorded with the Orchestra in 2019 and is now a regular feature on Classic FM.
Katherine enjoys combining her orchestral playing with a teaching position at the Royal Northern College of Music, as well as juggling family life with her husband Ian, a busy freelance violinist.
Katherine gratefully acknowledges the support of her Chair Patrons, Richard and Geraldine Prosser.
