The Arts Award is a national arts qualification for young people to learn and share new creative and leadership skills. Across five levels, the Arts Award is for young people aged 5-25 and is open to a diverse range of supporting activities. Find out more about the Arts Award on their website.
RPO Resound is an Arts Award Supporter, offering access to a range of music-based opportunities that can support and contribute to young people’s achievement of the Arts Award, such as discounted concert tickets, listening opportunities and interactions with RPO members and artists, helping participants to explore, review and reflect upon classical music or bespoke creative projects, where participants devise, create and present new work alongside professional musicians.
The RPO can offer the following activities
- Open rehearsal opportunities to hear the Orchestra live at venues across the UK
- Discount ticket schemes for young people and schools to attend RPO concerts
- Opportunities to meet and hold Q&As with our orchestral musicians
- Access to supporting resources, programme notes and artist information for RPO concerts and education programmes
- Behind the scenes tours at the RPO’s London home, Cadogan Hall
- Creative composition and performance projects devised in partnership in areas where the Orchestra is resident
Using the Arts Award in a project
Working with the charitable organisation Brentwood’s Orchestras for Young Musicians, we designed a bespoke youth leadership programme that provided the framework for a Bronze Arts Award. This ‘Young Apprentices’ programme gave the participants 13 hours of arts leadership training and 38 hours of creative projects, within which they could develop their skills through actively leading and sharing music-making experiences with other young musicians.
Artsmark
RPO Resound visits many schools that hold Artsmark status and, through well-planned partnership activities, the Orchestra aims to create inspiring opportunities and access to professional musicians and leaders, contributing to a culture of enjoyment and active participation in the arts within these schools.
