Workshop leader/composer Sam Mason worked with different community and school groups in Southampton to create the anthem Standing Proud. Sam and the RPO visited Shirley Library for an early years’ session, ran workshops at St John’s, Kanes Hill and Mount Pleasant primary schools, spent a busy day getting ideas from shoppers at Westquay shopping centre, and developed lyrics and melodies with music students from Solent University, students from Polygon School and an intergenerational choir.
Pupils from St John’s and St Patrick’s primary schools, and musicians from Southampton Music Service, joined Sam and the RPO for performances of Standing Proud at a match-day Fan Party, with the final performance also including some support from a local cheer-leading group!
